18 Aug Protect money, but do not worship it with Yvonne Chaka Chaka & Zolani Mahola
However you need to do it, you need to look after your money. If you are capable of doing it then do it yourself and be disciplined with it, but if you are not then you need a manager who works with you, a good manager who is not “going to chow your money” as Yvonne Chaka-Chaka says. At the end of the day, the buck stops with you, and you need a person who you can trust to do that.
Mam Yvonne doesn’t drink, and she doesn’t “take that white powder” because “dogs don’t drink” but she stresses that making mistakes is ok. You can make those mistakes but always remember that too much of anything is not a good thing, this translates directly to the Princess of Africa’s money and finances, she guards her money “selfishly” because you just never know what is going to happen in the future, so you need to take ownership of your life and make your money work for you. You need to protect money, but do not worship it.
Young legend of South Africa music Zolani Mahola talks about growing up poor and how so many who have grown up poor believe that when we get money, we need to spend it. We spend it in all sorts of places, including our own family members. Black tax is very real so when saving and putting money away for the future, she focusses on providing for her children and family but is determined to also think about herself. You also deserve to be protected and cared for, to have little luxuries and rewards for your hard work, don’t forget that.
Yvonne Chaka-Chaka also understands the responsibilities of providing. When she first made money she built her mom and sisters houses and finally, she got herself something. Giving is important, and giving is caring, but do not be abused. It’s so important to look after yourself if you are the person who is providing for your family, if you are not ok that means others will also not be ok, remember that.
Whether performing with Michael Jackson and Tina Turner, or at the White House for Barak Obama, Yvonne had someone making sure that she was looking after herself keeping her finances in check and her head on her shoulders.
