07 Aug Respecting the music industry with Yvonne Chaka-Chaka & Zolani Mahola
An impassioned Mam Yvonne Chaka-Chaka was in full force in this AMPD Studios Old Mutual Hero conversation between herself and Award winning Frontwomen Zolani Mahola. The term “has been” had been something that she had read about herself and she insisted that this is something that could never be applied to her.
She has performed with Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and is more than firmly established in South African Legend, but her respect for the music industry is paramount to her. Yvonne Chaka-Chaka continues to travel and to mentor musicians all over the world. She attends and presents awards for backing vocalists and session musicians because she wants to empower them to say that they have an essential role in this industry and that lead singers could not survive without the support of each and every musician. Each artist has value, know yours. Respect for people, venues and instruments is all as important as respect for yourself and your craft.
That theme emerges too when Mam Yvonne thanked Old Mutual, calling on musicians to respect the industry, “Old Mutual didn’t need to build this place, but they saw a niche market and we must thank them for it.”
The doors are open for you at AMPD studios, you are welcome. You will be respected, and we can offer you the directions for how to be a success.
